Q & Ages 25 & Up #19: July 2010

Previous Q&ANext Q&A

Sorry for the lateness! It's been a busy month, and it's still July for a few hours, so here's the July Q&A!

Question #1 - Monkeywrench asks:
With Cobra Commander'ss eventual prison escape and Destro’s unwillingness to rescue him, is there a possibility of a Cobra Civil War?

1337W422102 answers:
I hadn't thought about that. I mean, Destro already lead Cobra during the Trading Places story, and he did a pretty good job. The only ones who didn't seem to like his leadership were the Crimson Guard, who are always loyal to their commander. But as we've seen, the Siegies are already up to something! So, there won't be a Cobra Civil (or Uncivil) War, at least not now. I don't have enough Cobra figures to wage one, anyway!

Question #2 - Night Viper 143 asks:
Are there any plans in the works to spoof the new Predator movie?

1337W422102 answers:
There aren't any. Sorry, man. I haven't seen the new Predator movie and I don't know when or if the Predator Joes will be out in Canada. And even if they did come out, I wouldn't be able to get Billy unless I went to a specialty shop and paid too much.

Question #3 - Ctrl Z asks:
I caught the new comic, Batteries Not Included, on Crimson Monkey. Is that world going to be intertwined with Ages 25 and Up, or is this a whole new world, a dazzling place we never knew? (sorry, broke into a song)

1337W422102 answers:
Don't worry about it. Hey, when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear that it's a whole new world, but I can understand your confusion. I'm going to keep the A25Universe and the BNI worlds separate and try to keep the Joes out of BNI. I'd like BNI to be a general toy/comic/pop-culture sorta deal. Speaking of which, expect a new BNI issue soon! I'll let you guys know when it's up.

Question #4 - Ctrl Z asks:
What sort of lighting system do you use to shoot your comics?

1337W422102 answers:
Basically, it depends on the kind of look I'm going for and/or how lazy I'm feeling. Usually, I have 2 or 3 light sources. I use natural light as fill lighting and lamps and desk lights for back lighting or to illuminate specific areas (without pointing the light directly at the subject, to avoid overexposure and crappy photos). I don't go hardcore or anything. It's not like I have a soundstage or giant whitebox that I put the headquarters in, know what I mean?

Question #5 - Ctrl Z asks:
If Pinocchio says, “My nose will not grow,” what will happen?

1337W422102 answers:
The paradox would result in him dividing by zero and the multiverse collapsing in on itself, nose and all.

Question #6 - G.I.Eddie asks:
I LOVED the P.I. JOE. The lingo in it was fantastic and hilarious, what kind of references did you use?

1337W422102 answers:
Thanks, Eddie! I found some websites that had lists of slang from the "dirty '30s," and that helped a lot. I got a lot of the vocabulary from there.

Question #7 - G.I.Eddie asks:
Did you see the A-Team movie? What did you think? Is there a possibility of the team AND the van making an appearance in Ages 25 and Up?

1337W422102 answers:
I saw the movie and loved the hell out of it. It was way better and smarter than it had any right to be. Click here for my spoiler-free review. Unfortunately, the toys are not available at general retail in Canada, so I'm out of luck unless I decide to overspend at a collectors' shop and/or convention.

What I was going to do was have Cobra hire the A-Team to stop Beard Force. The Team would've been issued the Cobra Party Van which they'd promptly swap for their own Van. "Only two seats? Woohoo! I call sitting on the cannon!" Ultimately, they'd take out Beard Force's VAMP, which would make Clutch replace her with that newschool '10 model, which isn't out yet. Anyway, that's what I was going to do, but it's not going to work out now, so let's just assume that Cobra can neither find nor hire the A-Team.

Question #8 - G.I.Eddie asks:
Do you miss me?

1337W422102 answers:
Hell yeah, homeboy! Good to hear from you!

Question #9 - Sparhawk asks:
How you doing?

1337W422102 answers:
'ow YOU doin'?

Question #10 - Sparhawk asks:
Do you have in your myriad of well done stories.. An “end game” storyline?

1337W422102 answers:
Not sure what you mean. The last Plastic Gear Solid issue was called "Endgame" as a pun, but I don't think that's what you mean. I don't have a "Oh crap, I just got a Cease-and-Desist letter from Hasbro!" story planned.

...should I?

Question # 11 - Sparhawk asks:
How often do you have to “pull back” from an idea that even you, a Canadian, find too much?

1337W422102 answers:
I'm going to take that "you as a Canadian" part as a compliment, yes?

Let's put it this way: I try not to piss people off or intentionally troll. Someone incorrectly took the A Real American Teamup story as an insult to the fabric of America, but that was just funny. I don't sneak in stuff to annoy people and I've avoided abortion and rape jokes so far, which isn't easy what with Clutch, Iron Man, Gambit, Kyle Katarn, Duke Nukem, and other manly men around.

Question #12 - Sparhawk asks:
Boobs. They even sound round. Agree/Disagree?

1337W422102 answers:
Yeah, but "tits" sound perkier. I like perkier.

That's all for this month! I'm off to enjoy the War for Cybertron double-experience weekend. If you're playing the PC version and see a guy called "1337W422102," howsabout you don't kill him, eh? Be seeing you!

COMIC - File #100: "Brothers in Silence"

First of all, I just wanted to apologize for not having this special issue ready last week. Thanks for being patient and for reading the comic. Without you guys and gals, there would be no comic.

Last week was the first week in almost two years with no new comic. I'm afraid this week will be the second. Because #100 is not a comic.

Enjoy.

Ages 25 & Up #100 Delayed Until Next Week

Hey guys, I wanted to say a few words, if I may.

I don't ask for much from you guys, but I'm going to have to ask something of you this week. I'm sure some of you are looking forward to #100, which I have been working on since last week. I told you I was planning something BIG, which is why I kept #98 and #99 short in an attempt to earn a bit more time to work on #100. Unfortunately, the scope of "Project 100" is too big, and even with the few extra days I'd gained, I have not been able to complete it. It is currently about half-finished and I haven't even shot the second part of its story yet.

So, dear readers, I'm going to have to ask this of you: please remain patient. There will be no comic this week as I am still busy at work on #100. I'm not going to release it in its half-finished state, and I'm not going to rush it and half-ass it, either. #100 will be a very special issue and I assure you that the wait will be worth it.

In the meantime, I invite you to check out Ages 25 & Up's monthly sister comic if you haven't already and to bother Helix and tell her to get the damn comic finished. This is the first week in almost two years without a comic and I'm very sorry for the delay. Trust me, I'll make it worth your while.
